12 December
First went to a sculpture park where they put a lot of scultpures they ripped out from the Soviet era. It was covered in snow and was was filled with pre-school kids laughing and playing around the sculptures of the likes of Lenin and Stalin. They had a number of modern scultpures as well. Walked from the park past a massive 94 metre tall (and apparently controversial) Peter the Great statue on the Moscow River. Then walked across the river past massive traffic jams to the Kremlin. Spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around the Kremlin (which incidentally, due to the security, was the saftest I felt during my time in Moscow). There were a lot of old churches with frescos and icons (and tombs, including Ivan the Terrible's) that were very impressive, as was the armoury which had treasure and relics from Tzars of the past. Getting back to the airport on Tuesday was a bit of a nightmare. I had booked a taxi which turned out to be a really dodgy looking Lada. A minute down the road, the tire blew out! Thankfully the driver phoned a friend and I was taken there with no other problems!
