10 December
Stayed on a bit longer in Moscow to do a bit of touristy stuff. On Sat (extremely cold day) went to a craft market that was recommended in my guide book. Spent an hour getting lost in the metro (which is a very grand sight BTW). The book said, “follow the crowds” into the market. I did and by mistake walked past the craft market and walked into a busy and vast (massive – perhaps a hundred times the size of Spitafields) covered market that appeared to mostly be selling junk. Guards patrolled on catwalks. Every now and then a big cart laden with a lot of heavy sacks or boxes would come rumbling through the crown usually with a group of five or six Chinese men pushing it. I don't have any photos sorry – was too scared to show my camera. Found the craft market on way out. Bought a lot of Russian dolls and a few other trinkets.
On Sunday I battled through drifts of snow to get to a church that was about a kilometre from my hotel (http://www.ibfmoscow.org/). They had a Christmas nativity sort of play on that morning. Then spent the afternoon catching up on much needed sleep which was lost during 14 hour working days!
